Prologue
“This is not
possible. Not today.” He was saying to himself while running without the laces of his shoes
tied. “I can’t be late today.” Suddenly, a car
approached him from behind and the voice came out from it “Hurry up Usain bolt.”
The boy looks back
to the driver and said with the exclamation, “Zaffar! You there?” Demonstrating
the ray of hope on his face.
“Yup! Where you
going?”
“Railway station.”
“Come in Zayin, our
destiny is the same.” And Zayin stepped into
the car in hurry.
“So where is your
ultimate destiny for now?” Asked Zaffar.
“Srinagar. And
you?”
“I think I mean it;
our destiny is the same. Now tie your laces. I too am heading to Srinagar.”
“Cool.” And after tying his laces, zayin stepped into the car.
“So what are you doing these days?” as he ask the question to
Zaffar, he got his eye outside which filled him with the ocean of sorrows but
still was able to place a wet smile on his face. His elongated face with the
narrow eyes explained all the state of his heart. For sure; he was fighting
within. Sometimes the most beautiful and precious memories hit us with the most
callous dagger. For others, the field he saw might be a usual one with beautiful preface, with some trees circling it and a very beautiful and small stream passing
nearby, but for Zayin, that place was worth every drop of a tear he had ever
committed. People say time heals everything. But they don’t mention that is the same thing that made everything change. Zayin was continuously ogling that
field in the moving car. His every blink was revealing its story.
“Peace place.” Said
Zaffar, looking to the Zayin and referring to the field they had just passed
by.
“How do you know
about it?” asked Zayin with little wet eyes, exclamation in his
words, somber mood, and a little surprise for sure, but was still looking out of
the car.
“Ubaid said your story to me, but
very little. Right from then, I was just…” Zayin turned to him instantly and Zaffar continued his sentence, “curious to know what actually happened.” Then
again he looked forward and maybe was expecting something from Zayin.
Zayin said nothing;
he only moved his head aside trying to ignore his words because he was
somewhere in the corner of his heart aware that when the old, most precious, and
distorted memories hit you; it causes great damage to your state of living.
It neither lets you weep for the distortion nor will it let you smile for the
beauty of that memento. But Zaffar too
was very curious for knowing the story of something that had made Zayin wild for
some period. “You know about me and that Jammu girl?” asked Zaffar frequently.
“Suhani…. Yes, I
know.” Though his reply was direct, Zaffar was
able to extract that the only thing Zayin wanted to do at that time, was to weep. He had the
oceans captured in the eyes that only needed the trigger to flood everything.
But on the other hand, Zaffar was eager to know about the unexpected story;
that is what Ubaid had said to him. For that, he had to continue talking to him
and randomly he said to Zayin about the recent status of his relationship. “I broke up with Aleen.”
“Oh! I am sorry.”
Zayin answered after a couple of seconds but was still in that loop of time that
made him what he was.
“Don’t be. Actually, I broke up. I know what had happened to you and how girls see these things. So…”
before Zaffar could say anymore, Zayin interrupted, “Girls actually see nothing
bro,” Said zayin after looking to his face. Finally, Zaffar requested
him to delight the travel to Srinagar with his story, the story that never
ended with the full stop, but with the exclamation mark. Zayin also grabbed
that Zaffar was very curious to know about his story, so he smiled for a second
and said pretending to be normal, “We are not taking the train then! we are going
in this car, right?”
“Whatever it takes
you to narrate the story.” Answered Zaffar and both laughed, and then Zayin
initiate the story by saying, “If you want a happy ending then close your ears
Zaffar, because you are now going through my tragedy.”
